The Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago White Sox are set to play each other just after 2:00 pm on Wednesday, but they won’t be hearing cheers from the usual crowds today. To ensure safety of fans amid city-wide protests in Baltimore, the game is closed to the public and open to a select group of members of the media. The decision was made after the two teams consulted with Major League Baseball and city officials on the best course of action.
While fans may be not be able to attend in person, some have taken to social media to “check-in” at Camden Yards as a showing of solidarity, and a select few have the best view from the hotel across the way that looks directly onto the field.
Meanwhile, members of the media are posting images of the “ghostly-game” and empty stadium just before the first pitch. See a selection of content from the vacant game day below.
