Rick Pitino’s No. 6 Louisville Cardinals beat the Savanna State Tigers 87-26 Monday night (Nov. 24).
The Cardinals started the game with a 29-0 run, leading at halftime 41-7.
When interviewed after the game, Pitino said that he hates seeing teams get beat badly. Especially, when they don’t have a chance to begin with. When explaining that he tried to do everything to make things easier on the Tigers, Pitino said, “I don’t like to see any team struggle like that. I really don’t. I tried everything. We played four white guys and an Egyptian.”
Did Pitino go too far in saying that?
Yes, it’s funny–and he meant it to be funny. But should a coach as esteemed as Pitino be using such racial stereotypes in such a manner?
