Mo Touch Downs, Mo Money
New Orleans Saints Value: $1.75 Billion
Owner: Thomas Benson
Price Paid: $70 Million
2015 was a tough year for the Saints. Superstar tight end Jimmy Graham was traded to the Seattle Seahawks during the offseason. Hall-of-Fame quarterback Drew Brees turned 37 in January and his age showed in more than a couple of games.
Tom Benson announced early last year that he was cutting off his family from managing his sports teams and businesses after a falling out between his daughter and grandchildren, and his current wife Gayle. During the court battle, two valuation firms representing his heirs valued the Saints at between $1.5 billion and $1.65 billion. Gayle Benson will be the successor/owner of the Saints when Tom Benson passes away.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Value: $1.8 Billion
Owner: Glazer Family
Price Paid: $192 Million
One of the biggest investments made by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in recent memory have been on young offensive talent, who will hopefully pay off in the long run. The Raymond James Stadium is also getting a huge $100 million renovation that will bring more Bucs into the team… pun intended.
Cleveland Browns Value: $1,850 Million
Owner: Jimmy & Dee Haslam
Price Paid: $987 Million
The Browns are one of the most under-performing teams in the NFL but consistently can sell out 90% of their stadium. Jimmy & Dee Haslam, the former minority investors in AFC North side the Pittsburgh Steelers have not been shy about spending money on the Cleveland Browns. Jimmy has completed a transaction that cost him slightly less than $1 billion to take the Browns over from former owner Randy Lerner. The only thing we are looking forward to is quarterback Johnny Manziel, the former Johnny Football, to make the Browns a valuable team on the field.
