‘Let it goohhhh say, can you see?’
Idina Menzel, famed Broadway star and voice behind everybody’s favorite Frozen queen, will be singing the national anthem at Super Bowl XLIX on February 1.
The gifted singer may be best known today for Academy Award-winning song “Let It Go,” but her impressive career spans back over nearly two decades of fame.
Menzel starred as Maureen in the original 1996 Broadway production of Rent, a role which she reprised in the 2005 movie adaption. She also won the 2004 Tony for Best Actress in a Musical for originating the role of Elphaba, the “Wicked” Witch of the West in Wicked. More recently she received much acclaim for her performance in the newer Broadway hit If/Then. Outside of the theater circle, Menzel became even more popular thanks to a recurring role on Glee.
Idina announced on her Twitter that she is honored to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl 49, though we can’t help but think younger fans will be hoping for a mashup between the anthem and “Let It Go.”
