Today (Nov. 17) the St. Louis Cardinals announced that they are trading pitchers Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins to the Atlanta Braves for pitcher Jordan Walden and outfielder Jason Heyward.
The four-player trade came as somewhat of a startle, but it was by no means a surprise. Not only do the Braves lack depth in pitching, but more importantly Heyward, 25, and the tribe could not come to an agreement on a long term contract. The Georgia native and 1st round draft pick was sure to look for a hefty contract, and rather than seeing him walk away, the Braves were offered a quality trade and took it.
Heyward, the two-time Gold Glove winner and All-Star who almost brought home an NL Rookie of the Year award in 2010, batted .271 last season with 11 HR’s and 58 RBI– stealing 20 bases.
