Jose Canseco was rushed to the hospital Tuesday (Oct. 28) afternoon after accidentally shooting himself in the hand while cleaning his gun at his Las Vegas home.

The 17-year MLB veteran is recovering at the Medical Center of Southern Nevada after undergoing surgery to save the middle finger on his left hand that was nearly blown off.

The American League MVP award 1988 winner and two-time World Series champ, who publicly admitted to extensive steroid use, will never have full use of his hand again. The finger that was nearly shot off and “hanging by a string” was either to be amputated or undergo full reconstructive surgery. Canseco’s fiancée tweeted Tuesday night that Canseco was going to be “ok.”

We hope you make a full recovery and your finger remains attached, Jose.
