Karl Malone usually comes in peace, but he also comes prepared for war when the situation calls for it. And by war, we mean he’s not afraid to go out back and “knuckle up.”
In a recent interview with Huffington Post Live, Malone was asked if he still had “beef” with Kobe Bryant. If you don’t know, Malone allegedly made a pass on Bryant’s wife back in 2004.
During a Lakers game Malone, who was then retired, was sitting court side. Bryant’s wife, Vanessa, called Malone to bring his child over to her to say hi. When Malone approached wearing a cowboy hat and boots, Vanessa asked, “Hey, cowboy, what are you hunting?” Malone responded to Vanessa (who is Latino) with, “I’m hunting for little Mexican girls.”
After the game Vanessa told her husband the inappropriate things that were said. Bryant then called Malone to discuss what had happened. Apparently, Malone didn’t have much to say and didn’t deny anything that was said.
To this day, the two have not spoken to each other since the call. They passed each other once, both nodding their heads saying, “What’s up.”
Malone continued in the interview saying:
“We had a little issue. I don’t hold grudges … I love Westerns. I’m old-school Western. Back in the day, when you had a beef, you didn’t go get guns and knives … we just go back in the back with no cameras and knuckle up. Get it over with.”
Malone then said after being asked if the offer stands for him and Bryant to resolve the issue:
“It’s a standing offer. Look, I don’t want no trouble. I don’t have a problem. People say whatever they want to say and that’s great. I’m 6-9, 272 [pounds] to be exact. I’m not hard to find. I don’t want no trouble. But if something got to go down, I’m not playing fair.”
So will the two ever take it out back? Highly unlikely. But what a brawl that would be.
