Could Iverson be returning to the Sixers?
Larry Brown had an up and down of a yo-yo relationship with Allen Iverson when he was the coach of the Philadelphia 76ers. They went to the NBA Finals in 2001, but their relationship was full of ‘misunderstandings’ to say the least.
But Brown, now the head coach at SMU, came out today and said he thinks Allen Iverson would be a great fit in returning with the Sixers, this time in the front office. Brown isn’t sure exactly how he would contribute, but he thinks given Iverson’s relationship franchise and his basketball knowledge he would be a great fit.
When reached for comment Iverson, who never lacked for confidence, said, “I am a basketball genius and I really believe that, so at any capacity I could help this franchise, that is what I am going to do, whatever they ask me to do.”
While he might not be a basketball genius, Iverson would definitely bring some cache to a front office which has become a running joke for the past few seasons. Given how important the recruitment of free agents is in the NBA today, having a player of Iverson’s stature could only help.
Iverson, while incredibly talented, was known as an erratic person and could often be very hard to get along with, something an organization will put up with a star player, but not a front office employee. It is unclear what the next step will hold for the Answer but maybe it involves holding a clipboard and stopwatch.
