The New Orleans Pelicans are going to the playoffs!

The Pelicans (45-37) beat the San Antonio Spurs (55-27) 108-103 in the last regular season game to secure a spot in the playoffs. The Pelicans shared the same record as the OKC Thunder, and because the Pelicans own the tie breaker, a victory over the Spurs was a must if the team wanted to make the playoffs.

Going into the game, the Pelicans had a difficult challenge. The Thunder were playing the not-so-talented Minnesota Timberwolves (16-66), while the Pelicans were playing one of the best teams in the NBA– the Spurs were playing for a win because depending on a win or loss, they could get the no. 2 seed or the 6.

The star power forward for the Pelicans Anthony Davis said after the win, “Honestly, I know I all told ya’ll before this game it didn’t mean nothing, but I tried to downplay it because I didn’t want to get too excited. It meant a lot – and we played like it meant something. We played our hearts out.”

Davis scored 31 points and had 13 rebounds in the game.

The Pelicans may be in the playoffs, but they have a difficult road ahead of them. The team travels to Oakland, CA Saturday to take on Stephen Curry and the red hot Golden State Warriors (67-15).
