For a $5 cover you could have partied at Paul Rudd’s mom’s house after the Kansas City Royals beat the Baltimore Orioles 2-1, advancing to the World Series. And for you beer drinkers out there, there was allegedly a keg as well.
Comedic actor Paul Rudd, who’s a lifelong fan of his hometown Royals, may have been joking about throwing a party, but the players did some serious celebrating after the game.
The Royals have now won 8 postseason games in a row, first beating the A’s for the wild card, then crushing the Halos in the ALDS, and finally sweeping the O’s to win the ALCS. If there was ever a team that was playing hot, it’s the Royals.
Lorenzo Cain, the ALCS MVP who went 8-for-15 against the Birds, said after the series winning game,”It’s hard to explain. We’re clicking at the right moment right now.”
Kansas City will get home field advantage in their first World Series since 1985 on Tuesday (Oct. 21) against the winner of the NLCS, between the San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals. San Francisco leads the series 3-1 and plays tonight (Oct. 16) in California.
The Royals are playing extremely well right now, but don’t play again until next Tuesday. This could ruin their momentum. Baseball is meant to be played every day, and too much time off can be a bad thing.
If the Giants win the series, then the Royals will have to play at AT&T Park, where they haven’t played since 2005. As for the Cards, the Red Birds have World Series experience–having played in the Fall Classic two-years of the last three.
Whoever the Royals face, the fan base in Kansas City and Paul Rudd will be waiting for a chance to party. After 29 seasons of failed attempts, will 2014 finally be the year that the City of Fountains will flow once again with baseball royalty?
