One Cincinnati Reds fan got to be a part of the team yesterday. Chris Smith, Reds fan, snatched a foul ball out of the grasp of the Cardinals’ Matt Adams. After the clean catch was made an irritated Adams shoved the Reds hero, which in return Smith flipped Adams the bird:
The ball was in the stands, so the fan had every right to the ball. In fact, that’s what hometown fans should do. The Cincinnati Enquirer managed to catch up with the fan, who had a knee brace on and crutches:
He gave me a shove and I fell back. I’m pretty sensitive about my knee right now. I’m fresh out of surgery, it’s nothing to joke around about. I didn’t reach over, I stayed where I was, I couldn’t reach out if I tried, because I can’t hit my knee on anything.
Apparently the shove was an attempt by Adams to keep from falling into the stands. The Cardinals’ manager Mike Matheny supposedly said:
Matt Adams, Mike Matheny say Adams was just trying not to go into the stands when he shoved fan. Tough to stand behind that w/ video, though

There is possibly no better way for a baseball fan to experience a game than to prevent a rival team from catching a foul ball the way Smith did.
