Tom Brady Suspended Four Games, Patriots Fined $1 Million for Deflategate

More than just Patriots fans were surprised to hear the news today (Monday, May 11) that quarterback Tom Brady would be suspended for four games as per a league announcement following the Deflategate scandal.

The NFL announced earlier this afternoon that as punishment in the controversy over whether or not the Patriots purposefully deflated their Super Bowl footballs – and if the star quarterback had any knowledge of it – the team would also be fined $1 million, forfeit their 2016 first-round draft pick, and lose a fourth-round draft pick in the 2017 draft.

According to investigator Ted Wells’ report that was released last Thursday (May 7), “it is more probable than not that Tom Brady (the quarterback for the Patriots) was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities of [the Patriots employees] involving the release of air from Patriots game balls.”

There is no word yet on whether or not the Patriots will appeal this hefty penalty.
