You gotta love Dean Smith.

The legendary UNC head coach, who passed away on February 7 at the age of 83, directed his trust in his will to leave $200 to every Tar Heel who played under him in the 36 seasons that he coached at the school.

Tim Breedlove, the trustee of Smith’s trust, mailed a $200 check to about 180 former players. Each letter had a message that read “enjoy a dinner out compliments of Coach Dean Smith.”

Smith is one of the most famous basketball coaches in college history.

Winning two national championships in 1982 and 1993, Smith had a 879-254 record at North Carolina, the only school at which he ever coached.
